Google: Some Store Locator Popups Are Intrusive Mobile Interstitials

Google’s John Mueller said on Twitter yesterday that some store locator implementations on mobile may be be considered an intrusive mobile interstitial and thus be at risk for the mobile interstitial Google penalty – if there is any risk.

He said this in response to a specific example given to him on Twitter that looks like this:

John responded “seems like something we’d see as an interstitial (or at least index instead of the other content behind it.)” He added that making it “a banner would be fine,” and cautioned “just don’t block the view of the content.”

Good to know and share with the readers here. But like I said, thus far, this penalty didn’t seem to hit that many people.

Forum discussion at Twitter.
